And so we bid a fond farewell to 2009. It was a fairly mellow year. While 2008 was a high drama and stress year, 2009 just kind of floated along the river of time, hitting a few moderate rapids, but never getting wildly tossed about nor tossed out of the boat.
No international travel this year. [...]

I’ve eaten about a dozen peppermint candies (not the hard ones, but the sort-of-softish ones), and now feel quite nauseated. Ugh. Time to lay off the peppermint candies.
My fingers are frozen. I’ve been snuggling with three of those chemical handwarmer things for about 5 hours (one each in the palm of my fingerless gloves and [...]

I chose to stay in DC this year. It turned out very well.
I bailed on work before noon on Christmas Eve. I finished editing a document that had to be edited or the world would end (I was supposed to edit it last week, but no one bothered to tell me; since I’m not [...]

“When He is King we will give Him a King’s gifts,
Myrrh for its sweetness, and gold for a crown,
Beautiful robes”, said the young girl to Joseph,
Fair with her first-born on Bethlehem Down.
Bethlehem Down is full of the starlight,
Winds for the spices, and stars for the gold,
Mary for sleep, and for lullaby music,
Songs of a shepherd [...]

I’m totally serious about that title, by the way. Yes, I know plenty of people in DC don’t have a car, but it just seems like a hassle to be car-less here, and it’s easy to have a car here. NYC is a completely different car-related creature.
Anyway…
Last night a couple friends and I were going [...]

The morning after the end of the world.
The snow was 3 feet deep on the hood of my car. On the road side, it was only about a foot and half, but on the sidewalk side it was to my hips. I think we got 18-20 inches of snow, so the depth is from [...]

Still snowing, though it’s tapering off. I love the silence of nighttime just after it’s snowed. It’s so incredibly beautiful and peaceful. Sigh. I love snow.

I can now confirm, it is definitely snowing out there. Brrr.

Last year I was sympathetic. I didn’t want to offend my new city, and so I said, “Sure, I understand snow freaks you out a bit. You don’t get it much, you don’t know how to deal with it. I understand.” But ya know what? I’m done being sympathetic. Get a grip, DC. It’s just [...]

Very easy set-up and no pine needles to vacuum :-D

The bizarre ritual of Christmas/holiday cards is going on today at “Tiger Corp”. I’m not talking about friends and family exchanging Christmas cards. That’s normal. I even like it. I’m talking about the corporate exchange of holiday cards. In particular, contractor companies giving holiday cards to all of the government/military people they support. It’s weird. [...]

A good friend is in town and we got together last night to frolic and play. Okay, primarily just to see each other and see the National Christmas Tree at the White House Ellipse, but we’ll call that frolicking.
K suggested we have dinner first at a nearby restaurant, TenPenh, an Asian fusion place. It looked [...]
