Well, this isn’t fun

This is my livingroom, and it will only get worse.

I have a cavity. Normally this would be cause for stress and panic, but I’m so far over into that realm already, that I don’t even care. Bring on the drill! Usually a cleaning and checkup even stresses me out. Not this time. It’s not even [...]

Packing up and moving on

I got a new job! I’ll be moving to Washington, DC, in just 3 weeks. Panic! Stress! Anxiety! But I’m also totally excited. I’ll still be a tech writer, but I’ll be supporting the Navy instead of the Army.  I like variety [but clearly not too much variety ;-)].
I’m so excited to be living in [...]

I hate sunlight

Torment! Despair! Angst!
I just found out that contractors have to go to the stupid Safety Day/Independence Day celebration next week. Ugh. I HATE that whole thing. It’s 5 hours of sitting in the heat and plotting the destruction of the powers that be. It’s boring. It’s pointless. And did I mention that it’s hot?
And [...]

And a plague of snakes

In addition to the moths, we apparently also have a plague of snakes this year. Last year’s plague was snakes, but they’ve clearly returned for an encore. I’d heard rumors from others about the snakes, but I really hadn’t seen that many so I didn’t believe them. I now believe them. Snakes everywhere! I actually [...]

Death by moth!

I hate moths!!!!! I was just attacked by a whole herd/flock/swarm of them when I went out to mow my lawn this evening. And when Jaede (cat number 2) eats them when they get in the house, she smacks her lips. (Don’t tell me cats don’t have lips.) She doesn’t seem like a loud eater [...]

Job hunt update

I got a call back on the NIH job. They wanted to fly me out for an interview. I told them I’d accepted another position. Even though the job where I’ve signed the letter of commitment is not a sure thing, I just couldn’t get over the bad vibes I was getting about the NIH [...]

Moths it is

It looks like this year’s plague will be moths. Moths show up every year, but we haven’t had a huge infestation for quite some time. This doesn’t rule out other plagues (crickets, voles, or snakes, as examples from other years); however, it is mid-June, so any other plagues probably would have manifested themselves by now.
As [...]

Cats and radioactive waste

Don’t worry, the cats and radioactive waste don’t mix.
I just returned from the vet, 184 miles round trip. She couldn’t find anything wrong with Akila (my puking kitty). She took x-rays to see if her intestines were blocked (which was my main concern), but everything looked normal. As I looked at the x-rays, I said, [...]

A possibility!

I got an almost-job offer yesterday. I’ll get the job if they get the contract, but they won’t know if they’ve got the contract for a few weeks. It’s in the DC area, they’ll pay at least part of my moving expenses, and they can match my current salary. All cool things. They required that [...]

Mondays: they just keep happening

Work was very busy today. That’s a good thing. It’s nice to be busy. Nouns and verbs flying hither and yon!
I also had a job interview, but I’m kind of getting bad vibes from it all. Someone from a company in Minnesota emailed and wanted to know when she could call to speak. I spent [...]

The past week: bulleted version

.
.

My DSL died Monday night. There was much sadness in Orangeville. Luckily someone nearby has an unsecured wireless network so I was able to do a bit of internetting. Unluckily the small, local phone company that provides my DSL service has limited hours and I have little vacation time, and so I had to wait [...]
